The goals of the Henry County ProAm Photography Club are to foster the enjoyment of photography in the Martinsville-Henry County area and to promote photography as an artistic medium.  We provide an amicable forum for both amateur and professional photographers to focus on their hobby in both film and digital media.  Free-flowing interaction between club members refines their imaging skills, develops their personal style, and unlocks their latent creativity.  Emphasis is placed on everyone sharing their images, ideas, techniques, and experiences, and also on being open to the suggestions of others.  Each month, members bring several recent images, based on the monthly theme, and discuss their approach, composition and key shooting conditions.  In addition to monthly programs on photographic techniques or principles presented by members, we periodically have workshops led by specialists in their fields.  Field trips, and other outings, provide additional sharing, learning and social opportunities.  Members are encouraged to exhibit their images at local venues.
The roots of this club can be traced back to the late 1980’s when a group of individuals taking photography and darkroom classes at Patrick Henry Community College formed the ProAm Photography Club.  After those classes were discontinued, the ProAm Club operated under the auspices of the Piedmont Arts Association.  In 2000, the Henry County Parks and Recreation Department formed the Henry County Photography Club.  Both clubs operated independently until January 2007 when the two clubs decided to merge and formed the current Henry County ProAm Photography Club.
